On Saturday, April 9th, 2022, the National CanSat/Rocketry competition for primary and secondary/high school students (university students are already qualified) was held at the Airport “Veliki Radinci”. The best teams from Serbia participated in the competition with the aim of the final testing of knowledge acquired during the development of CanSats and Rockets, i.e. during the preparations for the competition. As this competition was the first phase of the World CanSat/Rocketry Championship (WCRC), coming to the Airport and competing with their peers in a completely different environment and atmosphere was a necessary addition to this process to make students more prepared to continue the competition in the second phase, at the Continental level, in Italy.
There were 5 students in each team and each of them had a special task.
During the competition, the teams had to complete two missions.
First mission: launching of the Water Rocket without CanSat,
Second mission: launching a Solid fuel Rocket, but with CanSat.
CanSat, after separating from the Rocket, had to open the Parachute and during the descending it had to send telemetry to the Ground Station operated by the teams.
Given that all teams showed excellent knowledge, resourcefulness, dedication, collegiality, agility, innovation, and, on the spot, showed that they are capable of performing more complex tasks, as well as immediate problem solving, the jury decided that all teams qualified to continue the competition in the second phase, at the Continental level, in Italy. By this statement, all teams officially become representatives of the Republic of Serbia at the international level within the World CanSat/Rocketry Championship (WCRC).
Teams that will represent the Republic of Serbia at the Continental Competition in Italy:
VRANjE – OŠ „Radoje Domanović“ – Team 1 (OŠ level)
RUMA – STŠ Milenko Brzak Uča – Team 1 (SŠ level)
VRANjE – OŠ „Radoje Domanović“ – Team 2 (OŠ level)
RUMA – STŠ Milenko Brzak Uča – Team 2 (SŠ level)
VRANjE – OŠ „Dositej Obradović“ (OŠ level)
BEČEJ – EDU Rockets (SŠ level)
VRANjE – HyperAstro (SŠ level)
Note:
During the competition, new КРСП/CSPD motors were used and, since the wind gusts were higher speeds, Rockets with CanSats were launched at altitudes up to 500m. For the first time in this competition, smaller CanSats were used (instead of a height of 115mm, the height was 70mm) and a lighter weight (instead of 350g, the weight was a maximum of 130g). This challenge was not a problem for our students, on the contrary, it additionally motivated them and all teams successfully fulfilled all defined missions and tasks. By reducing the dimensions (and weight) of CanSats, a much more realistic simulation of a real Space mission, i.e. the launch of a Satellites into Space, was shown, because two CanSats were placed in one Rocket. In the process of launching real Satellites into Orbit, in most cases more Satellites are placed in one Rocket, so the launch is more complex. During the competition, the same situation was presented in order to facilitate the understanding of this process.
We most sincerely congratulate all the teams on the successfully completed missions!
Special thanks to the Professors/Mentors of the above teams:
Professor Aca Manić
Professor Nandor Stari
